Why Northern Lights? As noted with our other Seasonal Blend drops, this year we picked “space words” as our blend theme. We have been quite lucky that coincidentally around all of our blend drops, a pretty neat astronomy-connected event has taken place. There was an Eclipse near us in the Spring, there was a fun Strawberry Moon right when we were launching Summer Blend, clearly there is an Equinox on September 22nd near the Fall Blend. Well, when we were thinking through names, the managers quickly suggested that we use Northern Lights! These have been able to be seen incredibly far south this year, coming as far south as Kentucky in early October! It just made sense. Plus it gives that blistery wintery vibe as they are usually associated with being viewed within the Arctic Circle.
When our team is looking for a winter blend, they are typically looking for coffee with tasting notes of fruit cake or a rum cake. Something that has molasses, spice cake with dried fruit notes. This coffee gives all of those vibes with the fruit notes from the natural Colombia shining through and the nut and spice notes from that Brazil rounding it out.
